Pom - the national dish of Surinam

Surinam, in northeastern South America, is the home of pom, a baked dish made with grated taro and chicken. Tayer, tajer, pongtaya, or pomtajer in Surinam = taro. Although the translator does not know the actual plant , a recipe is provided by the Go South America travel site. This mentions that grated (taro) can be bought frozen in packets - a great idea!

The Surinamseten (Food of Surinam) website is in Dutch but is authoritative, gives a variety of full recipes for pom (do a search for pom in the search box), and has tasty looking photos of the cooked dishes.
