 Subject: Taro in Turkey

I was recently in vegetable market in Istanbul, and learned that taro (called gologaz or similar in Turkish) is sold there in the autumn and early winter. Apparently it is brought in from the southern Mediterranean coastal region of Turkey. Have any visitors to this site ever visted that area of Turkey and seen taro growing? I would be grateful for any further information (places, dates, local names for taro, recipes, etc.).
